My Name is Maria Isabel by Anna Flor Ada
Summary: Maria Isabel Salazar Lopez is upset because her teacher calls her Mary Lopez. Maria Isabel sits and watches as her class prepares for the Winter Pageant. She is too shy to tell her teacher how much she wants to be called by her correct name and how much she wants a part in the pageant. She is also afraid of disappointing her parents, so she does not tell them she has no part in the pageant. Instead she immerses herself in "Charlotte's Web", finding comfort in the story of Wilbur and Charlotte. When an unexpected opportunit arises to tell her teacher her greatest wish, Maria Isabel remembers the brave Charlotte and tells her teacher the truth.
